{A little update} So... in case you’ve been wondering where I have been... Back in mid April, shortly after returning from our Spring Break getaway, my 3 year old accidentally gave me a concussion 🤕 At first I didn’t think much about our bonk on the heads, but a few days later I started having a bunch of off symptoms one of the biggest ones (aside from headache) was my vision. It was becoming pretty much impossible for me to do anything that involved a screen or seeing up close! Since this business of mine requires me to use a screen for editing, social media, working in the shop, completing orders, etc... I wasn’t sure how this was going to work out. The housing market was heating up and I was getting multiple post card orders in at a time, plus a wholesale order to complete. I tried to push through, but it was making me much worse. I had no other choice but to tie up loose ends and put the shop on vacation mode. 2 1/2 months later and I am doing much better. I still have ringing in my ears and get the occasional “too much screen time” headache, but I am way better than I was a few months ago! ...all from what was an innocent, accidental head bonk! I had decided to take the rest of the school year off and have since decided to take off the rest of the summer. Once both (BOTH 😭) of my boys are back in school in the fall, I plan to start gearing up for the holidays! In the mean time, enjoy a nature post here and there as we make the most of our summer together. 🖤
If you follow my personal account, you have seen that we are out camping this weekend and stocking our freezer with tons of Halibut! This definitely makes us Happy Campers. Something else that makes me a happy camper is lighting this candle and doing a little reading in the morning, once the boys have long left out on the boat. In no time at all, our camping trailer is filled with the sweet scent of Saguaro Blossom. I don’t know how to describe this scent other than light and amazing. My husband says it has a hint of tropical. Either way, we love our @denalifragrance candles. PS The Nude Collection also smells awesome.

Enjoyed a little ferry adventure over the weekend where we hiked some trails and busted out our new backpacking stove for a little pond side Mac n Cheese picnic. 😋 My boys were not disappointed. You can see more of that on my personal account @dahlhouse.adventures Spring time in the PNW is on point right now👌🏼so we are taking full advantage before those April showers arrive. 💦 How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Today was his BIG Day!! ...and boy was he excited! He has been patiently counting down since big brother’s first day of school last week. 😅 He was surprised that I got to stay with him at school today and more than disappointed when he realized the part he was most looking forward to (snack time) wasn’t going down ...AND then I further crushed his dreams when I had to tell him that he didn’t get to come back tomorrow and had to wait all the way until Wednesday! 🕤 tick tock...

Getting outside is good for my soul! So are dirty shoes... 🌲🏔 It amazes me how any and every symptom of chronic illness fades away when I am out in nature... Took my boys out on a spur-of-the-moment little urban hike at one of the nature centers in the city- because we just had to get out of the house. 🙃 Instead of play grounds and people, I was craving trees and trails without the long drive to get there. {Day 1} Today marks the first day that I choose myself. The day that I kick chronic illness out the door and kick healing into high gear. Today is the day where I begin to truly focus on this whole foods plant-based lifestyle. For the month of August, my goal is to eat 60% or roughly 2/3rds plant based throughout the day. As time goes on, I plan to increase this number. What is whole foods plant-based? Well that’s a tricky one and depends on who you ask. For me, this will mean that the base of my diet, or largest portion of my diet, will come from fruits and veggies in their whole form. The smaller percentage of my diet will include gluten free grains, wild caught meat, nuts/seeds and “treats”. Also known as a Pegan diet (Paleo/Vegan) What my diet won’t include within my control: eggs, dairy (with exception to minimal amounts of grass fed butter), store bought processed meats, low quality processed junk food. Perfection is for the birds when making lifestyle changes... I already know I won’t be perfect, and because of this, I already know I won’t let that stop me. This is my journey and I embrace it all from success to failure because without the latter, how will I continue to grow? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Today’s lunch: Zoodles (lightly sautéed) Heirloom tomatoes Shallot (thinly sliced) Basil (chopped) Olive oil (lightly drizzled) Squeeze of lemon Garlic (minced or sprinkle of garlic powder) Salt Pepper
{Halibut Rice Bowl+Mango Salsa} Last night we cooked up some of our own fresh caught Halibut and paired it with @medicalmedium ‘s Mango Salsa and Cilantro Lime Rice. It was so delicious! Mango Salsa Ingredients: 2 cups mango, diced 2 cups tomatoes, diced 1 cup avocado, diced ½ cup onion, diced 2 tbsp orange juice 1 lime, juiced ¼ cup cilantro, chopped 1 tbsp jalapeno, diced 1 tsp cumin Optional dash of cayenne Optional sea salt & pepper This mango salsa was an extra special treat for me since it has been quite some time since I have enjoyed mango. Over the last several years, after taking poor advice from doctors and in online communities, I began cutting foods out of my diet that I was told would bother me due to my current symptoms. I would gather lists online and eliminate, eliminate, eliminate... Fodmaps ✖️, high histamine ✖️, histamine releasing ✖️, oxolates ✖️, and so on... Many times during the worst flares I was down to just a handful of foods. Let me tell you friends, this is a slippery slope. After my experience, I DO NOT recommend or advocate this type of food elimination. It has been a struggle to reintroduce foods that are now foreign to my body. Not only a physical, symptomatic struggle, but a mental and emotional struggle as well. ...and above all, this does NOT heal. Nutrition heals. Thankfully I have found a wonderful naturopath who has been working with me over the past year to help me get these foods back. Helping me push beyond that mental block and fear. I went from having zero allergies or sensitivities of any kind growing up to carrying around an Epi-pen. That is not a place you want to be if you can help it. Unless it is a whole food that actively bothers you, or is a legit allergy, please keep it in your diet despite what any online stranger or list says. If you are concerned, you can always lessen your intake. ...so today I celebrate my reunited love of 🥭 as well as my reunited love of 🍒. Two highly nutritious fruits making there way back into my diet.
Eat the rainbow! 🍅🍊🍋🥒🍆🍠 I used to throw a ton of produce away. 🙈 I had good intentions... but some of it would almost always go bad before we got around to eating it. Now that I have started eating a stronger plant based diet [I am not vegetarian or vegan] and begun juicing more, we are usually running out of produce! This morning we were down to a bunch of cilantro, head of butter lettuce, a lime and 1 last apple that got thrown in my son’s lunch box. So it was definitely grocery store time!
I have been loving on this @alterecosf Coconut Toffee chocolate bar for several months now. I can easily say this is my new favorite chocolate bar. 🖤 I seriously need just 1 small square and I am totally satisfied ...and I love the sweet crunch of the coconut toffee. It makes me cringe to think how I used to eat an entire butterfinger or snickers candy bar and STILL want MORE! ...and sometimes eat more 🙈 Funny how real food satisfies... What chocolate bar are you digging on these days?
You had me at BOGO 😍 That’s right loves... tomorrow is the beginning of dōTERRA’s BOGO week! While this account might be new, my love for essential oils isn’t. {Self-care Sunday} Do you glorify busy? Are you functioning from a place of hustle and flow or balance and flow? I know I feel a million times better when I am functioning from a place of balance ...but it is SO hard in today’s society. Whether you are a working mom, stay at home mom, work at home mom, or boss babe I understand the struggles to manage it all! ...but you can’t pour from an empty cup... Hopefully you can take some time on this Sunday to fill yourself up, however that looks like. For me, I will just be over here wrapped up in my cozy sweater sipping my tea. Remember: sometimes you have to say “no” to others, in order to say YES to yourself. ...and that’s okay 👌🏼. Happy Sunday. 🖤
