A {store} birth story

Welcome to 47+Pine (formerly Wild in WAnderland)!

47+Pine is a brand that was dreamt up over four years ago after the birth of my first child. Prior to his birth, I was an Elementary school teacher with a Master’s degree.  I had spent the past decade+ assisting in “raising” the children of other’s, and I knew  with the impending birth, it was time to take the time to raise my own.  So I left the teaching profession to stay at home with my sweet, new baby boy.

I have always been a creative, and I figured with all this new found time on my hands I would start creating.  I started collecting ideas, and even came up with a shop name… At the time, it was named DahlHouse Co., but the core themes of {Maps, Adventure, and Nature} remain the same today.  Many of the products released in the 47+Pine shop were dreamed up under the DahlHouse Co name.

4 years ago... what took so long?

While the intention and enthusiasm were there, the ill timing of attempting to open up a shop with a newborn in the house made it extremely difficult to turn my ideas into physical products.  Basically I was waiting for all that free time to come to me. The time, dedication, and self discipline needed to open up and run a new shop and grow the brand into everything I envisioned just wasn’t realistic while also learning the ins and outs of being a new mom.  So instead, I took the time to enjoy my baby boy, while still noting ideas and catching inspiration for my “someday” dream.  A few years later, his little brother arrived and I continued to take more time to love on them both and soak it all in.  While I still love on them daily and soak up all of the awesomeness that is motherhood, I am now feeling fully ready and inspired to get back into the swing of things. #dontstopbelieving

Why change the names?

DahlHouse Co. evolved over the past four years to really represent our family unit. While my whole crew is a part of this journey, I just no longer wanted the products and brand to share the name of what became known as my day-to-day family life.  While they are both very much me, it was also important for them to have some separation.

Wild in Wanderland

So one day, while thinking about the main themes surrounding the brand, Wild in Wanderland came to mind. I felt this name embodied everything my Pacific Northwest based brand was becoming.  You may have noticed on some of the previous branding it appeared as WAnderland, with the capital WA standing for the great state of Washington. If you live here, or have ever visited, you know what an epic wonderland this place is to wander in. From the shores of the ocean to the beaches of Puget Sound, the peace of the mountains to the hustle and bustle of the city, the dry desert lands of the east to the thick, wet rain forests in the west, Washington offers it all!

Plus when you look up the name in the Urban Dictionary, you get this:

…and well, yeah.

So now you are 47+Pine?

While I loved the Wild in WAnderland name, I had gotten some feedback about Wanderland autocorrecting to Wonderland. …and well, if youre going to have a business… people have to be able to find you.  So after a year, we grew up a little and changed our name.

What can I expect from 47+Pine?

The shop opened in April 2017 with our exclusive Heart Marks the Spot map prints.  Since then, we have added our Pine Photo Displays & Hand-stamped Jewelry to the mix.  As we continue to gain our footing I would love to add Apparel items and explore the idea of getting our goodies out to some of our favorite local shops.

So welcome to the blog and I hope you’ll follow our journey!

Hugs forever! -Jami
